PURPOSE:

The Shift Supervisor is the leader of the Shift Organization and has the responsibility for the safe, environmentally sound, PSM compliant, reliable and economic operations of the refinery. All operators in the facility have direct accountability to the Shift Supervisor on site. The Shift Supervisor reports to the Operations Superintendent.

KEY OBJECTIVES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Accountable for HSE compliance of shift operations for assigned crew
  • Conducts routine scheduled meetings as established by shift calendar or procedures including but not limited to safety meetings, start of shift meetings, critical equipment review meetings, morning A operator and daily operations summary
  • Conducts housekeeping, safety audits, maintenance audits as scheduled by area superintendent
  • Conducts initial investigation and documentation of incidents of near misses and incidents
  • Completes shift report as per procedure
  • Notifies environmental on call of possible environmental exceedances or other incidents that require agency notification per procedure
  • Notifies Safety Department of injuries or PSM events as per procedure
  • Trained on emergency response and part of ERT team. In emergency, becomes IC on scene until relieved if incident in his/her area. If in other shift manager area, becomes process control for entire plant and becomes EOC manager until relieved
  • Maintain staffing for shift team and calls out employees following the CBA and other procedures
  • Reviews A operator shift notes
  • Direct supervisor of operation employees in assigned area. Mentors and coaches operators, especially A operators
  • Oversight of operator round and routine duties and audits to assure these are done
  • Assists in troubleshooting of Operational or Quality problems and coordinates with appropriate resources
  • Assures execution of production plan as issued by superintendent. Assists team members in optimizing the plan.
  • Assures maintenance plan/schedule is executed as per guidance/plan by reliability coordinator
  • Calls out maintenance off shift as per guidelines
  • Alters maintenance priority in consultation with area superintendent if needed to address HSE or equipment malfunctions.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCES:

  • 7+ years' Refinery Operations Experience
  • Prefer previous shift supervision in a step-up role
  • HG Diploma, GED or Degree in Related Field

  • Good communication, training, mentoring skills required
  • Sound leadership skills required
  • Must exhibit effective team skills
  • Capable of working with all levels of the organization
  • Must be able to work through multiple tasks simultaneously, prioritizing effectively
